It only took three tries...

Finally, this summer (or late summer as the case may be) I have seen a movie worth the $7 one has to pay to sit in those damn uncomfortable seats.
Friday night I had the good fortune to see Hero. This subtitled gem is the newest Quinton Tarantino film and is unlike any other he has put out. I was unsure on what exactly to expect going in. I thought It would probably be an excuse to do lots of fancy wire-based martial arts stuff.
In that respect I was partly correct. There was a lot of wire work, but it was so beautifully done. The fight scenes had a ballet like grace that set them apart form the average martial arts film.
Added to this was the visual brilliance, full of color and depth. Even my room mate, who hates subtitles, was taken away by the beauty of the film.
I was overjoyed and very proud of Tarantino at the film's end. The plot wove a brilliant zen like parable full of sacrifice and deception. I was completely overwhelmed.

So, to sum up: I liked it. I really really liked it.
